Year 9 French exchange - final days!

The Year 9 French exchange has sadly come to an end all too quickly.
The French party left Cowbridge this morning at 9am to make their way to Portsmouth for their ferry to Caen overnight.  The French and Welsh students have had a fantastic time enjoying each others' company in the last week and many students were crying this morning as they said goodbye. I am sure the Cowbridge students can't wait for the return visit to Rezé, Nantes in June.
The French students spent several hours in Bath today enjoying the Roman Baths and the Fashion museum before heading towards Portsmouth.

Yesterday the French students spent the day at Cardiff Bay where they visited the Senedd  and learnt about the Welsh Assembly as well as enjoying a thrilling round around the bay on the speed boat! A good day was had by all!

7.3 Riceathon Record!

Well done 7.3! You managed a Cowbridge Riceathon Record this afternoon!

Last Friday night's disco.

The annual Friday disco for the French exchange was a great success. Here are a few photos!

Les Français et les Gallois visitent Cardiiff

Today Cowbridge students and French students enjoyed a day visit together. They started by visiting St. Fagans where they particularly enjoyed the old boutiques and the miners' houses.

Here are some students enjoying a pic-nic in the sunshine.

They then made their way to Cardiff castle where everyone was impressed by the ornate sumptuous decorations inside the castle.

After the castle everyone enjoyed a little bit of shopping time! A few French students even bought themselves matching onesies! Here is one of them!

Madame Vert (Green) managed to end up in this group photo! Here we all are having fun!

After shopping we went bowling where the onesies were proudly worn, we all had fun bowling and then enjoyed chicken nuggets and chips before returning to Cowbridge for 6pm.

Weekend antics!

Year 9 students and families did a fantastic job of making their French guests feel welcome at the weekend. Merci beaucoup! Many students watched Year 9 boys beat Brynteg at the Cup final in the Millennium Stadium, and lots of students explored Cardiff and its shops and museum. Some students went swimming too. Many bought gifts for their French exchange partners too! A good time was had by all!
On Saturday night many of the Cowbridge students and their French guests enjoyed a get-together. Here they all are having fun.

More photos of Friday's exploits by the French exchange!

Here are lots more photos of the French students' activities on Friday!

Proud of their efforts!

Happy to be on the exchange and at the Millennium stadium!

Giving a press conference!

Fairy cakes made by our French exchange visitors.

On Friday our French exchange students enjoyed baking fairy cakes with the DT department. Here is the very impressive result. Thank you very much once again DT! Merci beaucoup.

Today many students went to watch Cowbridge Year 9 rugby team win against Brynteg in the cup final in the Millenium stadium. Lots of students went into Cardiff too and enjoyed the shops. More news to follow....

Les Français sont arrivés!

The party of French students arrived from Nantes on Thursday evening and are busy enjoying activities in school today. This morning they were welcomed by the head teacher Mrs Thomas and also enjoyed musical performances; Libby Wilson-Wood played the harp as they entered the hall. Then Lowri Morgan sang very impressively and following that everyone enjoyed James Morris' musical prowess on the piano. Dylan LLoyd-Doyle, James Morris and Daniel Taylor then performed together too. Bravo! The French also performed a song and also spelt out what Cowbridge meant to them! For example D is for daffodils! All the students then enjoyed sharing Welsh Cakes prepared by the canteen.
After break the French enjoyed cooking fairy cakes. This was exciting as in France cooking is not a subject on their curriculum. This afternoon the French are visiting the millennium stadium and tonight is the long awaited soirée disco!

South Wales Regional Final - Spelling Bee 2014

Today three Year 7 French linguists travelled to Brynwgyn School in Llanelli to represent Cowbridge MFL Department in the South Wales Regional Final of the Spelling Bee for 2014.

Nia Evans, Lauren Light and Benjamin Batten wowed us with their spelling skills in French and have been working hard in preparation for the competition.

Nia, Lauren and Ben did a fantastic job and made Cowbridge MFL Department proud. Unfortunately they did not make it through to the next round of the Spelling Bee, but we are nevertheless impressed with their effort and spelling talent.

Mrs Ellis from the Welsh Department took the three pupils, along with four year 7 pupils representing the Welsh department.  Superbe, Da iawn, Year 7!
