Our French exchange guests arrive on Thursday and we are excited to welcome them to beautiful pays de Galles!

They sent us a video message to say hello before their arrival! Enjoy!

Year 9 STEM science and languages workshops take place this week

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week all of Year 9 have been taking part in Languages and Science workshops. The MFL department are proud that with the help of SEE-Science, we have been lucky enough to enjoy the expertise and insights of 4 different speakers who all use languages in their business and scientific careers and in Wales: David, a UK diplomat, Chris and Sarah from Tata Steel and Lars from Dow Corning.

The MFL department of Cowbridge Comprehensive would like to express their thanks, danke schön, merci to David, Lars, Sarah and Chris, who all gave up their valuable time to talk to Year 9 about how their use languages in their careers and how languages have helped their careers in business and science to progress.

We are sure that all of Year 9 have enjoyed the thought provoking process considering new careers options open to them in Science, Languages and other areas of course!

Bonjour. J’ai 14 ans. Mon anniversaire c’est le 1 Mars. J’habite à Cowbridge au pays de Galles. Je suis anglais et Je suis petit. J’ai les cheveux longs bruns. Je suis amical et sympathique.

The French exchange is flying by with great success! After a fantastic weekend with their families the students enjoyed a day out in Puy Du Fou - a theme park with a difference!

Weemee characters

 

9x1 have enjoyed creating some "weemee" characters this week. Here are some of them.

Bonjour, je m‘appelle Bruno. J’ai treize ans. J’habite à Berlin en Allemagne. Je suis allemande.Je suis assez petit mais je ne suis pas mince. Je ne suis pas sportif, mais je suis énergique. J’ai les yeux verts. J’ai les cheveux en épi. Je suis merveilleux, bien sur et marrant. Aujourd’hui je porte un pantalon orange, des bottes bleues en cuir, une veste violette en coton, des lunettes jaunes en plastique et des ailes rouges en coton aussi.

 

 

 

Bonjour, je m'appelle Sam. J'ai les cheveux courts. J’habite au pays de Galles. Aussi, j’ai les yeux bleus. Je porte un tee-shirt bleu et un jean. Je porte des baskets parce que j’ adore le basket-ball. Je joue avec mes amis.

J’ai les yeux gris, j’ai les cheveux violets et courts. Je suis bavarde. Aujourd’hui je porte un short et un collant orange en coton et un sweat à capuche multicolore en plastique. Je n'ai pas de pieds parce que je suis une fée. Je porte des ailes blanches en soie.

J`ai les cheveux châtains, longs et raides. Je suis très bavarde et marrante. Aujourd`hui, je porte un pantalon blanc en jean, un tee shirt bleu en lin, des chaussures jaunes, roses et vertes fleuries, un sac à main blanc en cuir et des lunettes de soleil en or.

Year 9 create monsters!

Here are some of Year 9's creations! Year 9 have been learning the body parts in French and also focusing on adjectives. To show what they learnt they had to write a description of "un monstre" and then they used ipads to create their picture of their "monstre"! Some students chose to draw their "monstre" themselves and these pictures are equally impressive.

Year 9 French exchange - final days!

 

The Year 9 French exchange has sadly come to an end all too quickly.
The French party left Cowbridge this morning at 9am to make their way to Portsmouth for their ferry to Caen overnight.  The French and Welsh students have had a fantastic time enjoying each others' company in the last week and many students were crying this morning as they said goodbye. I am sure the Cowbridge students can't wait for the return visit to Rezé, Nantes in June.
The French students spent several hours in Bath today enjoying the Roman Baths and the Fashion museum before heading towards Portsmouth.

Yesterday the French students spent the day at Cardiff Bay where they visited the Senedd  and learnt about the Welsh Assembly as well as enjoying a thrilling round around the bay on the speed boat! A good day was had by all!

Weekend antics!

Year 9 students and families did a fantastic job of making their French guests feel welcome at the weekend. Merci beaucoup! Many students watched Year 9 boys beat Brynteg at the Cup final in the Millennium Stadium, and lots of students explored Cardiff and its shops and museum. Some students went swimming too. Many bought gifts for their French exchange partners too! A good time was had by all!
On Saturday night many of the Cowbridge students and their French guests enjoyed a get-together. Here they all are having fun.
